The Pub under the moon light
The feeling and the ambiance of a sea beach make us more spacious inside our mind and it gives us so much of freedom of relieving from the stressful life. Most of the people who loves their own company, stay alone, stay clam with nostalgia or hanging out with friends for a long chat would love select their location as a sea beach. Even the tune of waves, winds and sea breeze creates that feeling. What if they can have it on a night under the moonlight. That would be ideal. Imagine a feeling of the sea beach with gloomy shadows of moon through coconut trees, some lamps are hanged in tree trunks, a garage situated on a corner of the beach with abundant tires, vehicle frames etc. which serve local toddy which directly taken down from trees. That was an ancient setting in coastal communities.
The selected site is a residential house which was converted into an art gallery and a performing art theatre. The interior is changing with the time and with the exhibits. But there is a pub situated in the dark upper floor which cater to the limited number of people at once. This functions at night time. The interior of the pub is detailed and texture finishes are according to the theme of a garage. But when considering the target customer group, the ambiance of the moon lit beach ideal with the lighting quality. The lighting design should start with entrance staircase to the pub.

Design Approach
Theme: Moon lit Beach
Lighting quality: Cool colours, soft shadows, diffused light, wall washing shadows, gloomy lights
Objectives: Accommodate a human being whom tired from same routing or a person who required to have a calm place, his/her own company or peace in mind.
Create the lighting quality of pub with an isolating, pushing towards nostalgia, imaginations, mind healing with the informal arrangement of night sea beach under the moon light.
Art gallery is a place of experience and this pub also will be an art piece of expressing the expression of a moon lit sea beach.
Entrance staircase: The staircase should have a lighting system which directs the user towards the Pub. The lighting quality of the staircase should be like sea waves hitting the beach. Basically, the expression is “user come along the sea beach and directed to the garage on a beach corner”
Pub area: The place should look like the sea shore under the moon light with shadows and lamps hanged in coconut trees. Avoid using pointed lights and more lights. Trying to create silhouettes, diffused light on the floor and light up the essential objects. A cool light which looks like came from far away and should evenly spread on surfaces.
Outer lobby area: This area should be dark. Only the essential functional lights and path directing lights should apply. This area should have the expression of land area with many trees and little bit away from the sea.
Lighting can change the feeling of the place. It can create different ambiances. Vibe of the space can entirely manipulate from use of lighting. The feeling of the sea beach has introduced not only with colors but also with the tones of the light as well as shadow casting and temperature of the different colors.
